Stevie McEntee is a non-binary trombonist, composer, bandleader and creative producer. Their primary passion is working with community to tell stories and bring new perspectives to audiences.

Originally from Bunganditj/ Mount Gambier in South Australia, they graduated with a Bachelors in Jazz Performance from the Elder Conservatory (Adelaide) in 2012. 

Since graduating they have worked as a professional musician and music teacher; touring Europe and South East Asia (2013-2014) and recording with Adelaide based Afrobeat super group the Shaolin Afronauts. They worked for a year and a half as a touring and session musician in the north of India (2015-2016), eventually settling in nipaluna/ Hobart in late 2016. 

They currently lead and write for the following projects in nipaluna/ Hobart: Baba Bruja (all original 12 piece Afrobreat dance band), the McEntee Ottaway Big Band (18 piece big band co-led with nationally renowned pianist and composer Kelly Ottaway), the up-to 40 piece New Orleans style marching band the Assembly Strollers (co-led with Rhiannon Salter), Mazikka (a collaboration with Egyptian born classical Arabic singer Mira Rizk, reimagining popular Middle-Eastern film tunes from the 1940s and 50s for a modern jazz ensemble + string quartet) and The Creek Road Art Orchestra (a new collaboration with musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds exploring the social and cultural paradigms of life in modern lutruwita/ Tasmania). They are also arranger and Musical Director of  ‘Trey Trashes Winehouse’, a queer reimagining of the music of Amy Winehouse, in collaboration with nationally celebrated drag artist Trey L’Trash.

Stevie has appeared and led bands at festivals including Panama, Falls Festival (Marion Bay and Apollo Bay), Splendour in the Grass (Byron Bay), Glastonbury Festival UK, WomAdelaide, the Adelaide Fringe, the Port Fairy Folk Festival, the Cygnet Folk Festival, the Taste of Tasmania and Dark Mofo. 

Their recent credits include composer and conductor of the 2020 Faux Mo 'Welcome to the Dollyverse' stage show, composing for and leading the music for the 2019 and 2021 Ogoh Ogoh Parade. Stevie is the co-director of the Clarence Jazz Festival, and is an advocate for the platforming of musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds, women, queer and gender diverse artists.

They worked for three years as a creative producer at Community Arts and Cultural Development organisation Kickstart Arts, where they produced a number of community focussed music programs. Currently they work at the Clarence City Council Arts and Events team, where they are co-artistic director of the Clarence Jazz Festival.
